The ovarian remnant syndrome (ORS) is an iatrogenic disorder in bitches and queens, which is characterized by recurrence of estrus following surgical spay, due to the presence of a piece of ovarian tissue within the abdominal cavity. In most cases, the remnant ovary is found in the right ovarian pedicle, due to its topographic position, deeper and more cranial than the left ovary. The main clinical signs of ORS in small animals are the heat behavior and the presence of vaginal swelling/secretion, especially in canines. The diagnosis should be performed by means of vaginal cytology when attraction of males is detected, serum estrogen and progesterone levels and/or by challenging test with GnRH or hCG administration. However, vaginal citology is the most suitable and less expensive diagnostic tool. Nowadays the treatment of choice is a new laparotomy or laparoscopy, followed by removal of the remnant ovarian tissue. The surgical treatment has more chances of success if it is performed in the diestrus (i.e., between 15 and 60 days after the detection of attraction of males). Furthermore, a careful and accurate surgical procedure aided by advanced visualization techniques during ovariohysterectomy or ovariectomy is the best way to prevent ORS in companion animals.

The present experiment was carried out in ten animals with third eyelid prolapsed gland. All of the prolapsed glands were surgically excised. The age of the dogs ranged from two month to ten years old, and the breeds were Beagle (20%), Teckel (10%), Pinscher (10%), Poodle (10%) and other mongrel dogs. Aspirative citology was made in all the removed glands, after that they were fixed in 10% formalin and stained with Hematoxiline and Eosine. It was observed a focal mononuclear inflamatory infiltrate in the conjunctive and periacinal tissues. Ductal dilatation and metaplasia were noted on cells of the ducts. Cyitologic examination showed similar inflamatory infiltrate to histopatologic findings. The glands showed a chronic adenitis. The absence of histo and cytologic significance changes justify the tissue function observed during surgical excision.

The objective of this study was evaluate the airways' cells types from horses of the military police of Federal District. It was used 24 horses, divided into 2 groups of 12: group I - animals in policy activity and group II - animals out of policy activity. At the inspection, physical exam and blood exam, the results agreed with no present clinical pathologies. It was infused 240mL of saline solution in the bronchoalveolar wash. In the bronchoalveolar wash, the group I registered 25.25±7.3 squamous cells, 20.2±5.5 epithelial cells, 22.2±6.23 macrophages and 2.02±5.77 erythrocytes, and in the group II, it was observed 31.0±9.47 squamous cells, 19.0±5.20 epithelial cells, 43.0±13.88 macrophages, 4.0±1.52 eosinophile and 3.0±1.0 erythrocytes. Verifying the occurrence of side effects after the experiment, there was no problem from the used technique.

The aim of this study was to evaluate abdominal ultrasound images of dogs diagnosed with lymphoma. Seventy cases of dogs with lymphoma were analyzed. The animals selected were diagnosed with lymphoma which was confirmed by citology or histopathology. The most common sonographic alterations were abdominal lymphadenopathy (57.1%), hepatomegaly (54.2%) and splenomegaly (51.4%). Of the animals that had a cytology done of superficial lymph nodes, 82,8% showed diffuse sonographic changes in the liver, 54.5% had normal sonographic appearance in the spleen and enlargement of the medial iliac lymph nodes. Considering the results, we conclude that canine lymphoma is a complex disease and that it requires several laboratory tests for a correct diagnosis and prognosis.
